The will of Founding Father, To Build a Better Future

—Taoist Federation (Singapore) solemnly commemorates the first anniversary of the death of founding father of Singapore, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. On March 21, 2016, Taoist Federation (Singapore) and Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple jointly held “The First Death Anniversary of Singapore’s founding father, late Mr Lee Kuan Yew” to express our deepest respect and memories of late Mr Lee selfless contribution to building a modern Singapore. The Inter-Religious Organisation (IRO) is a co-organizer of this event.

On the evening of the same day, the commemorative event was held at Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple with the theme: “Religious Harmony towards Future”. We are pleased to have Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister of Minister’s Office, Secretary-General of National Trades Union Congress, and Member of Parliament representing Tanjong Pagar Group Representation Constituency, as the event Guest of Honour. Mr Lee Hong Chuang BBM, Adviser to Hougang GRC Grassroots Organisation, Mr Chua Eng Leong, Adviser to Aljunied GRC Grassroots Organisation and leaders of IRO attended the event as well.

The Guest of Honour, Mr Chan Chun Sing, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the great contribution made by the late founding father Mr Lee Kuan Yew to the country and the people. He emphasized that the late Mr Lee left behind not only a modern Singapore, but more importantly he taught Singaporean the importance of racial harmony, perseverance and the spirit of caring for the less fortunate. As long Singaporean continue to maintain this spirit, Singaporean will definitely achieve greater success in the future 50years or even 100years.

Mr Tan Thiam Lye, President of Taoist Federation (Singapore), said in his speech that the founding values left behind by the late Mr Lee is a precious legacy for fellow Singaporean. It provides a strong, lasting spiritual drive for our future development. Everyone needs to cherish and practice this value seriously. As a member of the society, members of Taoist Federation (Singapore) will stand by the will of the late founding father, remembering the founding values passed down and contribute to the cause of religious harmony and charity works.

The ten religious representatives of the IRO held prayers to remember to remember the late Mr Lee and prayed for racial harmony and world peace. Representatives from each religion once again go on stage to jointly sing the song “Yi Ren Yi Ban”. This move fully reflects Singapore’s religious harmony. The commemoration event also included a charity dinner for the elderly and thanksgiving banquet for the 2016 Chingay Procession performance troupe.
