In 2006, the Taoist Federation organized a grand “Taoist Cultural Festival” on the land next to San Qing Gong Temple. This festival included a World Peace Prayer Conference, martial arts by Mountain Wu Dang Taoist Association, an exhibition on Taoist temples and similar educational events. Singapore’s President SR Nathan and his wife participated in the grand dinner with thousands of other people attending. Mr. Tan Thiam Lye appealed to all members to support religious policy on harmony, respect, and equality, and to work together to build a harmonious and peaceful society in our multi-cultural, multi-religious country.
Social stability wouldn’t occur without religious and racial harmony. Therefore, Singapore’s government paid great attention to religious issues. In response to this policy and in order to help the state establish a harmonious environment, the Singapore Taoist Federation has organized the “World Peace Prayer Conference” seven times since 2002. During the Conference, members of different religions gather together to announce “a statement of religious harmony” and pray for harmony using their own distinct rituals.
